The city of Thebes was home to the pharaohs of the Middle and New Kingdoms of ancient Egypt. As such it contained remarkable temples tombs and structures dedicated to this remarkable period in history.
Today Thebes is known as Luxor and it is one of the most popular destinations for visitors from around the world. Though only a small city the area is spread out across a wide distance and contains the enormous Valley of the Kings as well as the smaller Valley of the Queens the Luxor Temple and the Temple of Karnak. It is also home to a museum and many shops restaurants and hotels that serve the needs of the many travelers.

It is also the area which houses the Valley of the Queens which is home to the tomb of Nefertari and is also where Luxor tours take visitors to the tombs of the many nobles and workers who spent their lives and eternity dedicated to their pharaohs. It is also the location of the Temple of Hatshepsut and Deir el Bahri which is where the famous cache of royal mummies was discovered in 1871.

It is also important to wear protective clothing to avoid sunburn.
