The Museum of Contemporary Art of Chicago is situated at 220 East Chicago Avenue Chicago Illinois 606112643 United States. The museum is located near the Water Tower Place in downtown Chicago in Cook County Illinois United States. The present location is in the Streeterville neighbourhood which is in the Near North side community area.
The Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago was initially located at 237 East Ontario in 1967. The earliest director of the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago was Jan van der Marck. At first the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago was only served as a space where temporary exhibits could be displayed as in the German Kunsthalle model. Yet in 1974 the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago obtained a permanent collection of contemporary artworks that were made after 1945.

The Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago was the only American museum to display Bruce Maus Massive Change exhibit in 2006. The attendance record to the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago was broken in 2008 at the 2008 Koons retrospective where a record 86 5484 visitors visited the museum during the period of the show May 31 September 21 2008.
