The City Of Lakes
Who could ever forget their first introduction to Minneapolis MN from the famous TV show “Mary Tyler Moore?” Each week Mary Tyler Moore would toss her hat into the air in a most carefree and happygolucky manner. Who else could take a nothing day and suddenly make it all seem worthwhile? This is the Minneapolis we all fell in love with. Minneapolis has gone from a high falutin’ metropolis from the days of “Mary Tyler Moore” to a more down home countrified persona thanks to the movie “Fargo” where the inhabitants spoke in old world lingo with phrases such as “Don’t cha know?” and “Pass me them there cheesecurds!” and “You’re darn tootin!” But no matter your own personal opinion of Minneapolis MN it was voted as an “up and coming destination to visit in 2006″ by Travel and Leisure. The Minneapolites as I like to call them have had to battle the winter blues for as long as they can remember. But never ones to give up easily they have constructed a series of skyways that allow you to travel from one shopping mecca to another in a maze of glass and metal bridges. Mother Nature is not going to get the best of this bunch! Their skyways link shopping plazas to restaurants to hotels to car dealerships to banks and beyond. And you thought you were living in a bubble! One can certainly not deny that the Minneopolites have survived many a harsh winter and will survive many more. Minneapolis isn’t lacking for culture either. Two art museums worth mentioning are the Walker Art Center and the Frederick R. Weisman Museum constructed of aluminum panels featuring artists such as Marsden Hartley and Georgia O’Keeffe. Now how contemporary is that? Did I mention the Minnesota Orchestra one of the top symphonies in the country? Not to mention the Minnesota Opera the Guthrie Theater and Children’s Theater. Minneapolis is as culterized as a city can get. Here you will also find world class hotels and restaurants offering highclass establishments that would make New York look sick. After all what else are people going to do all these months living on a frozen tundra? And that’s what makes this metropolis so great creativity is buzzing here. And just when you think you’ve seen all there is to see they build something else. There is a neverending playground of indulgences to be visited here. So what are you waiting for? Minneapolis MN is the place where it’s all happening even in the dead of winter. But don’t be deceived into thinking this city is sleeping its way through the 21st century because it’s alive and well. And if the freezing cold temperature is keeping you at bay then darn it come in the summer! There’s plenty to do when things thaw out too. Beautiful parks countless lakes for boating and fishing and enough barbeque’s and picnics to keep you sizzling hot for quite a while. No matter what season you’re visiting Minneapolis MN in it’s sure to keep you hopping!
