Thinking About Moving To Paris?

Living in Paris is tricky. It takes careful planning and thought to get your stay just right. My wife and I moved over to Paris for a short but sweet 10 month stay mainly due to my working commitments.
Planning our trip over to Paris proved to be crucial but the move itself was not as easy as I had expected. Its hard to remember but back in the late 90s it was hard to find online information in regards to moving country but now that has all changed. My wife and I had previously lived in numerous other countries such as China Australia and Spain. Moving out to those particular countries was quite challenging however when we decided to move into Paris last year there was more than enough information online about everything we needed to know! There is an endless supply of great information on entertainment and tips about the initial move.
For only a years stay it is important to think of your move as permanent. We met some expats who were only in Paris for a very short while and they still hadnt figured out how to buy cheap train tickets!
Before moving to a magnificent city like Paris it is important to familiarise yourself with your local town/region. Before my wife and I arrived I assumed I should find one cafe where everyone would know my name so I felt a bit more comfortable and at home with my surroundings. However this aspiration was in direct conflict with my desire to explore the entire city so I didnt really focus on one cafe or region of the city! It is nice to have someone that does recognise your name in a different country it makes you feel more at home I suppose.
Even though we regularly explored the entire city we did pick up lots of local information about special local events that were happening in the same area. This way we can get to know the locals and start to build up a social network.
Language is a very important factor to take into consideration when you are moving over to a foreign country. Language is key but it wasnt easy. My wife and I had arrived with basic skills enough to go out to a restaurant read the simplest newspapers or go to a shop but when the post office has lost your post or you are trying to complain about something over the phone to someone who doesnt speak a word of English it is hard to get to grips with the language! It would definetly be worth it to take some language lessons before you went out there.
On the whole it is important to understand that cultural cities such as Paris thrive of local community. Being active within the community is what France is all about. So if you were considering going out there and living in Paris take this article into account!
Hope you have a great time in France!
