Vale Do Lobo Golf Resort

Literally translated Vale do Lobo means valley of the wolf. It is difficult to imagine that wolves ever inhabited this part of the Algarve the name must therefore stem from old wives tales about the ancient and densely wooded ravine at the southern end of the resort. Today Vale do Lobo Golf Resort is recognised for being one of the most prestigious fully integrated resorts in the Algarve.

The Atlantic Ocean and rainwater are still eroding the cliff top the famous 16th hole a challenging Par 3 over the ravine is one of the most photographed golf holes and made Vale do Lobo Golf Resort a well recognised location. The Golf Tee has been repositioned a few times since the golf course was built. The hole still requires a solid accurate long hit to avoid ending up on the beach below.

Vale do Logo Golf Resort was built in the late sixties early seventies. This kind of fully integrated sport and leisure resort was still a new concept in Europe but already very common in the United States. It was initially intended for permanent living by retirees from Northern Europe who would enjoy the warm climate and the facilities at their doorstep.

Today Vale do Lobo Golf Resort is recognised as being one the best location residential and holiday destination in Europe. Facilities are added and improved; a second championship golf course was added recently. Vale do Lobo is keeping up with the more recently built sister resort Quinta do Lago next door. But many people prefer the fact that the facilities are centrally located which gives the resort a heart. The best feature however is the beautiful beach which runs along the southern end of the resort.
