Villa Holidays In Lanzarote
Lanzarote is located in the island chain of the Canaries – which are owned by Spain but located off the coast of Africa. And is one of the most popular holiday destinations in Europe. Boasting a semi tropical climate and surreal volcanic scenery.
The Canaries are located in the Atlantic Ocean and are sometimes referred to as the European Caribbean. As they are the closest winter sun destination to the mainland at four hours flying time from major markets such as the UK and Eire.
Around 9 million tourists visit the islands annually with around 1.4 million of them heading for Lanzarote – the fourth largest island in the group.
Tourists have been coming here for over forty years and holidays in Lanzarote feature in the brochures of all of the leading travel agents and tour operators such as Thomson and First Choice. Around 20% of visitors book an all inclusive break on the island – with around 30% preferring to book their own private rental accommodation direct. With good quality apartments and villas in Lanzarote available across the island.
Tourism is concentrated in three main resorts; Costa Teguise, Playa Blanca and Puerto del Carmen. Which all boast their own identity and attractions.
Costa Teguise is located towards the north end of the island and was first developed during the 1970´s as a coastal resort to the former island capital of Teguise. Which is located around 6km inland and which is home to some of the finest colonial architecture on Lanzarote.
Costa Teguise enjoyed a great deal of popularity during the 1980´s – but has since faded away a little. Thanks largely to the rise to prominence of Playa Blanca in the south. As visitors can enjoy better weather in that part of the island – particular during the winter months which are a busy holiday period on the island.
Playa Blanca also boasts great beaches and one of the best selections of hotels in Lanzarote. With an abundance of four star establishments lining the shoreline and the five star luxury of the Gran Melia Volcan located right next to the attractive Rubicon Marina development.
Puerto del Carmen is the grand old dame of island tourism and is located between these two resorts on the islands south east shoreline. This is the oldest and largest resort on Lanzarote and is geared more towards budget apartment based breaks.
